If your kids have been wanting “Rock Band” but you are a little hesitant about the content, the Lego Rock Band game will make you all happy.  Lego video games are clever and fun, and enjoyed by kids of all ages.  The new Lego Rock Band includes play levels from “Super Easy” to “Expert” to keep your “budding musician” on his toes.  Players choose an avatar – maybe David Bowie – (you’ll most likely have to answer “Who is David Bowie?”) and up to 4 players can play at the same time.  The music playlist features songs such as: “Ghostbusters,” “We Will Rock You,” and “Kung Fu Fighting” and is all suitable for younger audiences.  Lots of fun for the whole family.

Jakers! Let’s Explore (Nintendo DS)

If your preschooler gets in trouble for accidentally deleting his brother’s games on the DS, this new game based on the PBS show “Jakers!”  is a great solution. Especially made for ages 3-6, Jakers! Let’s Explore takes place in the village of Tara, Raloo Farm and the Irish countryside depicted on the series.  Children can choose to play as Piggley, Dannan or Ferny and will be entertained through stories while learning positive moral lessons.  There are few games for this age group, so it’s nice when an age appropriate game comes out.

Math Blaster in the Prime Adventure

Finally, a DS game that they’ll love to play and they’ll learn along the way!  Math Blaster has been around on the PC for awhile, but the DS version is a new way to help your child master the sometimes elusive math facts.  A fast-moving game with 20 levels and 3 difficulty modes, the game keeps their attention and helps them learn math functions with improving accuracy each time they play.  Great for studying multiplication facts.

If you’re looking for a gift for tween boys, Mall Cop is a must-buy.  It tells the story of a devoted mall cop who takes his job extremely seriously, so seriously that he puts his life on the line when a gang of thieves lock down the mall.  Kevin James rules the movie as the dedicated single father who lives with his mom, taking on the bad guys with only his Segway and his wits.  A movie they’ll enjoy more than once.
